WAIT! Don’t even look at that large doghouse.
UNLESS you do have a large breed. Think about it for a minute. If you purchase a dream house just because it blends into your natural environment, your buddy may not consider it den-like.
WHY? If the house is too big, he loses insulation, warm or cool. Think of the heating/cooling efficiency of our own homes, same deal. Yes, you can insulate from the underside with a dog bed or recommended cedar shavings.
Stack the dog bones in your favor; for ultimate protection against extreme temperatures, measure your pet.
Ventilation.
Same goes for ventilation. Rather than create a hothouse incubator effect, look for a doghouse that’s insulated and well ventilated. Humidity sucks the life out of you; just think what it’ll do to your pet. Circulation can be as hi tech as you can afford. What about raising the floor? Less debris inside…hmmm…
Wood or PVC?
If you have a beaver-wanna be, go PVC. Why encourage the chewer of the family? Protect against pests and get a maintenance-free home all at the same time. Of course, wood is a natural insulator. Cedar is a natural flea repellant. Match the exterior of your own home with an insulated doghouse.
